Assistant Coach Steve Walters

Steve Walters is in his sixth sea– son as assistant coach with the Toreros. He is a Special Education teacher with the San Diego Unified School District as well as women's soccer coach at Hoover High School. He is a graduate of San Diego State University. Steve resides in the Pa– cific Beach area of San Diego along with his wife, Claudia, and their two daughters, Jaime and Jackie. 1992 USO Softball Outlook The 1991 season brought many smiles to the face of USO Head Coach Larry Caudillo. With a veteran group of returnees bolstered by a talented group of newcomers, the 1992 season could return those smiles-and many more– to Caudillo's face. The success of any fast-pitch softball team is usually based on the strength of its pitchers. That being the case, the Toreros should be very successful. Leading the way are a pair of junior righthanders-Tiffany Wasilewski and Hillary Savage. Wasilewski is coming off a season that saw her become the first USO pitcher to win 20 games (21-5). Savage was USD's top pitcher in 1990. Additional pitching help should come from sophomore lefthander Aimee Reinard and freshman righthander Heather Kenney.

Head Coach : Larry Caudillo (seventh season)

Assistant: Steve Walters (sixth season)

The responsibility for handling the Torero pitchers will be– long to one of three players - junior Laura Cisneros (18th nationally in '91 with 34 rbi's) and freshmen Lisa Goodwin and Natalie Brewer. First base is the domain of Aimee Reinard (20th nationally in triples with 7) while '90 MVP June Andrews (.304) or freshman Kim Tibbetts will handle second base. The key performer at shortstop is '91 MVP Julie Doria, a senior who was 17th nationally in '91 with a .409 batting average. Both Cisneros and Andrews will also see action at shortstop. Third base should be handled by one of four players - junior Angie Straub (.395 B.A. in '91 ), sophomore Amy Sepkowitz, Brewer or Cisneros. The Toreros' outfield will be strong both offensively and defensively. Left field will belong to either sophomore Mel-

issa Reinard or junior Dina Tarr while Caudillo will place right field in the hands of junior Marianne Stahl or fresh– man Brittany Volk. Centerfield will be occupied by one of three players - Straub or sophomores Cindy Harris and Josie Hudak. Freshman Julie Takeguchi will back up each outfield spot. The Toreros finished 16th nationally in batting (.293) in 1991, a trend Caudillo sees continuing in 1992. With a strong pitching staff, an improving defense, an exciting offense and a veteran group of returning players aided by an impressive cast of first year collegians, the Toreros should come close to equalling or surpassing last season 's 34 victories.
