Update from the Chebeague Island Historical Society

Fall Hours — Island Homes: Chebeague’s Domestic Architecture, Settlement to 1890, this year’s new exhibit, has already attracted more than 2000 visits. Guests have been amazed by the high- quality photographs of the island’s oldest houses, some of which no longer exist. The exhibit will be open Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. through Columbus Day weekend. Many thanks to the volunteers who mounted this excellent exhibit and to our visitors, who have been so enthusiastic about it. It will remain as our exhibit in the summer of 2017. Museum Gift Shop — Half of the Museum’s annual revenues come from our gift shop sales. An array of t-shirts, books, island soap, mugs and glassware, and other treasures is still available. The gift shop is open whenever the Museum is open. Watch for Special Sale Days in November and December.

Volunteers Welcome — Are you interested in helping to run the museum or gift shop? Writing for a historical journal about an island you love? Taking care of one of Chebeague’s historic buildings? Or discussing the history of the island with our many visitors? Your help is always welcome. For more information, contact President Toby Webb at tobywebb@verizon.net . Summer Employment Opportunity — Depending upon the post-college plans of our 2016 summer managers, the Museum may need a paid manager for the summer of 2017. We will be looking for a college-aged intern with an interest in history; a friendly, welcoming personality; and the ability to operate independently for five days per week. Please pass this information along to any eligible candidate. Expressions of interest should be sent to Toby Webb.
