High stiffness Hobas pipe is easy to S S install by routine methods

The direct bury portion of the project ranged from 60cm to 8m in depth and was installed primarily in sandy material. The embedment specified and used was 2.5cm minus stone with filter fabric to prevent migration of native soil into the embedment zone. The design engineer at Bowen, Collins & Associates received help from the Hobas engineering staff to specify the appropriate pipe stiffness rating based on depth and soil conditions. Also provided were the appropriate pipe zone backfill specification requirements for Hobas pipe. The Jordan River project required additional planning because of the extensive groundwater that was present. Apart from this, it lies in an area that experienced some H 2 S derogation of the existing concrete pipe. Hobas pipe was selected for its H 2 S resistance and water tightness. The pipe used in this project had an SN of 5,000, which is standard for direct bury and tunnelling applications. This stiffness allows for routine burying methods with predictable performance that can handle deep covers. Hobas FWC couplings were used for the Jordan River project installation. The couplings are factory assembled to one end of each pipe for ease of use in the field. The sealing design includes both lip and compression elements, so the joint is suitable for both non-pressure and pressure service. Hobas Engineering GmbH – Austria info@hobas.com www.hobas.com
