pressure pipes in the case of the trenchless installation of pipelines. Whether directional drilling, relining or bursting, the largest part of the pipeline eludes checks by the client’s or respon- sible planner’s quality management

egeplast, a manufacturer of PE high- pressure pipes, has developed HexelOne ™ pipe, designed to have around double the strength of existing polyethylene pipes, making it suitable for use in high-pressure applications and as a reduced usage of material in familiar applications. The new plastic pipe is made from polyethylene only, using the new HexelOne manufacturing process. egeplast has also introduced the SLM ® DCT pipe for trenchless installation with additional protection and checking. This pipe is made from PE 100 RC, with an additional protection layer made from mineral-reinforced polypropylene and conductive aluminium strips for acceptance of work.

team, and this is where the pipe is exposed to the greatest stress. Unacceptably high levels of damage to the pressure bearing pipe wall place a burden on safety and service life. The egeplast SLM DCT (Detection and Checking Technology) has been developed by egeplast specifically for this reason. The intactness of the new

pipe can be proven during the final acceptance of the construction work.

For special applications, egeplast has developed the SLA ® barrier pipe with special barrier layer. This pipe is made from PE 100 RC with an additional protection layer made from mineral- reinforced polyolefine and with a KIWA- accredited barrier layer made from aluminium. A WIS approved version (WIS 4-32-19) is also available. The SLA barrier pipe is claimed to be the world’s only plastic pipe system for drinking water that is officially approved for installation in contaminated soil (pipe and joining techniques). Its diffusion-resistant aluminium barrier layer prevents the penetration of pollutants. Accordingly, the SLA pipe combines the advantages of a plastic pipe (no corrosion, possibility of trenchless installation) with those of a metal pipe (barrier properties). For leak monitoring, egeplast produces the 3L Leak Control pipe. This pipe is also made from PE 100 RC, with an additional mineral-reinforced polypropylene protection layer, and electrical conductive layer made from aluminiumforcontinuousleakmonitoring. In addition to diffusion resistance, the egeplast 3L Leak Control provides the option of permanent leakage monitoring and leak localisation to an accuracy of 10cm. egeplast states that it is the only PE-pipe system that fulfils the requirements on permanent leakage monitoring pursuant to ATV A 142 for Class II Water Protection Zones.

Hot foil indent printers for marking plastic tubes Gnata Filippo Srl is a manufacturer and supplier of hot foil indent printers. Gnata machines are designed for inline hot marking with coloured tape on

extruded PVC, PE, PP, ABS and PA pipes and cables from 6 to 2,000mm in diameter. Any writing can be transferred by means of steel or brass stamps that are placed on the marking wheel. An electronically controlled resistance heats the characters, while marking is achieved through tape colour transfer. The tape, stocked in ten colours, is placed between the characters and the product to be marked. A wide choice of printing tape colours provides easy identification of pipes according to their application.

Colour thermal transfer printing is a reliable and durable marking method.

The slight fusion with the plastic material offers stronger resistance to abrasion and atmospheric agents.

Several models of printer and marking accessories are available according to the minimum and maximum diameter of the pipe to be marked and according to the extrusion speed.
