Piql - Making Data Immortal
Arctic World Archive®
The purpose of the Foundation is to preserve the world’s memory, heritage and knowledge for the benefit of future generations, enabling them to remember, understand and learn – and ensuring the perpetuity of this legacy.
As one of the founders of the Arctic World Archive® Foundation, we at Piql are committed to preserving the world’s digital memory. The Arctic World Archive® (AWA) offers unmatched security for the piqlFilm, the world’s digital memory, with an offline and off-grid vault on Svalbard — an Arctic island located in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, between northern Norway and the North Pole.

The Arctic World Archive® serves countries, authorities, organisations, and companies that want to contribute to the world’s digital memory and requires secure storage for valuable or irreplaceable information with guaranteed future access. The archive holds global treasures, including deposits from the National Archives of Brazil and Mexico, the National Museum of Norway, the Vatican Library, the European Space Agency and UNICEF, to name but a few. AWA has so far received more than a hundred deposits from over 30 countries worldwide.
Stored deep within permafrost in ideal climatic conditions, the piqlFilm is safeguarded in the most secure “digital embassy” on the planet, with access provided only when needed. This special service is made possible through a unique agreement between AWA and Store Norske Spitsbergen Kulkompani (SNSK), a state-owned Norwegian mining company. AWA (in collaboration with Piql) ensures the eternal preservation of digital data and operates the service, while SNSK is responsible for the security and monitoring of this unique vault, located in one of the most geopolitically stable places in the world.
