and crime coverage. Other tools have been suggested and recommended this past fall at the 2017 CBA Summit on Violence Preven- tion, and legislative initiatives by officials like Congressman Danny Davis’ Gun Vio- lence Research Act HB 4573 to track the use of weapons in crimes. Many other initiatives have been launched throughout the city by the ChicagoMayor’s Office and community groups such as the Obama Foundation. Jordan, the patriarch of a media family that includes daughter Karen Jordan and son-in-law Christian Farr, should be lauded for writing a book that frames the issues about violent crime and how media management makes decisions about crime coverage. His book is an excellent stimulus for a continued dialog by bar associations and community leaders. It can serve as a basis for strategic planning for violence prevention groups, governments and philanthropic programs. Jordan’s book is a key starting point to help Chicagoans and others examine and work to remediate this nationwide phenomenon of violence and murder playing out on center stage in Chicago. We can learn to harmonize technology’s impact on media coverage on crime with reasonable solutions to help heal and improve our society.
