is where the seed of the so-called “hedgehog” appeared for the first time (Fig. 1). This system is still in use today. Another benefit of this cooperation was the fact that the top expert prof. Vladimír Moravec, head of Tatra’s development of gears and propulsion system went to our department. His experience played an important role in the future direction of the department. The first major event for Škoda was the measurement of gearboxes for the Fabia and Octavia cars. Figure 1: “Hedgehog” Figure 2: Measuring stand

Including engine block, clutch, torque arm and engine mount. The drive was solved by an electric motor with speed reduction by a series of planetary gearboxes. Thwarting of energy was carried out on the axles using the original disc brakes for front axle. Continuous regulation of the braking force was performed by a separate hydraulic circuit with manual control. Here the knowledge gained during measurement for Tatra was applied, but in much smaller space (Fig. 3 - comparison of Tatra and MQ 100 gearbox shafts). It was a very precise job. Dozens of measurements were carried out during which the reliable methodology was tuned. The accuracy of the measurements was verified by the proprietary FEM software (Fig. 4) for the strength and deformation check of shafts (Litvin, 2004). There was no such commercial software available at the time. From the quantum of data the necessary modifications of the shape of the toothing and the helix angle were proposed (Nemcek, 2012). These measurements continue today. Figure 3: Comparison Tatra – MQ 100 Figure 4: Our the first FEM software
