from which they will drive towards electric and connected vehicles, greater supply chain digitalization and fresh efficiency gains. Almost each of the OEM’s and the largest automotive one and two-tier suppliers are represented in the region, such as, Volkswagen, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), Skoda, Dacia, Kia and Hyundai. This is thanks to the presence of developed supply chain, automobile clusters and innovative environment, whereas CEE offers quite business friendly conditions for the automotive sector in the world. CEE countries provide also a connection between West and East World with well-developed infrastructure and descent transportation connections. Foreign direct investments are the basis of the CEE automotive sector, with CEE countries having legal frameworks in place that boost the business to prosper (Pavlínek, 2017). In recent years the number of electrical cars has been increasing with 5-12% on annual basis across the CEE region as we can observe significant increase in Slovenia, Hungary, Poland and Estonia. However, in the majority of CEE countries the growth is still not significant and even if we take into account COVID-19 outbreak, which completely affected the whole world, the number of electrical cars in the CEE is expected to be quite low in 2020. Hungary is the largest EV market from the eastern part of the bloc in 2018, and the only country from the region where EV sales exceeded 1% of total vehicle sales. The lowest proportion of EV sales across the 28-member bloc is in Poland, but sales were also minimal in Slovakia, Greece, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania and Romania.

3. Technological aspects of electromobility development in the CEE region In the developed part of the world it is possible to observe the dynamic progress of new technologies and drive systems that are increasingly used in the automotive industry in the production of modern passenger cars. The application of alternative drives such as electric drives makes it possible to reduce the use of fossil fuels and reduce the environmental impact of their combustion (Kalaitzi, 2019).
