8. Elders work with servant leaders ( diaconos ) to equip the church for ministry and mission (Eph. 4.11-12). We value other leaders in the church. And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, [12] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ (Eph. 4.11-12).

9. Elders exercise oversight like shepherds (1 Pet. 5.2; Gal. 5.22-6.2; cf. Ezek. 34).

Shepherd the flock of God that is among you, exercising oversight, not under compulsion, but willingly (1 Pet. 5.2).

10. Elders are honored at our church. We treat elders with great honor and respect (1 Tim. 5.17; 1 Thess. 5.12–13; Heb. 13.7).

Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in preaching and teaching (1 Tim. 5.17).

We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, [13] and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves (1 Thess. 5.12-13). Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God. Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith (Heb. 13.7).
