AASA urges responses to proposed changes in E-Rate program The American Association of School Administrators (AASA), of which IASA is a state affiliate, is urging members to send responses to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which is considering some changes to the E-Rate program that has helped fund internet connections for schools and libraries. The changes being considered by the FCC could have an impact on funding and on the allowable uses of the funds. A summary of those proposed changes can be found here. AASA also has included its comments to the FCC as well as a template response that can be revised and customized to reflect your district’s experiences with E-Rate as well as your thoughts on the proposed changes. The AASA Back to School Toolkit: E-Rate offers an overview of the program and some suggested talking points. Comments are due by September 16. To submit a response online, go to www.fcc.gov/ecfs and you will be taken to an online submittal form. In the area for the Proceeding Number, use 13-184. Complete the rest of the information on the form and upload your comments at the bottom of the form. Also, Noelle M. Ellerson, AASA’s assistant director for policy analysis and advocacy, can assist you in submitting your comments if you submit them to her at nellerson@aasa.org by September 11.
