In-line mechanical descaling Lämneå inline rod cleaning system is intended for the continuous, in-line descaling, of wire rod. The system consists of a 4- or 6-sheave scale breaker and a 4-pair brushing unit.

Key to a high quality finish

Good wire rod surface preparation, and the use of an appropriate drawing lubricant are key to the production of high quality finished wires. The following Lubrimetal products have been developed to help to achieve top drawing performance and results. Inhibitor LM ® is a range of pickling inhibitors for chemical pickling. Inhibitor LM 6537 is a new inhibitor for sulphuric acid pickling, suitable for high and low carbon steel chemical cleaning. Fosfil ® and Steelfor ® are pho- sphating agents, coatings and carriers, of which Steelfor ITS/5 – a borax-free salt coating for steel wire rod and wire pre-drawing preparation – can be used for batch and in-line treatments. For dry drawing lubricants, the Lubrimetals’ Lubrifil range offers Lubrifil VA 2007 – VA 2001, a strong drawing lubricant for mechanically descaled wire rod such as galvanised wire for fences, barbed wire or baling wire, for example. Lubrimetal is a lubricant and technology specialist for the drawing lubrication of mechani- cally cleaned wire rod, offering no pollution and lower production costs compared with an acid pickled wire rod. Also available, Lubrifil VA 3173 and VA 705, high performing drawing lubricants for PC wire and strand production, and Lubrifil VA 6001 – VA 7001, high performance borax-free sodium based lubricants for high carbon steel (spring or steel cord) and stainless steel wire drawing. Lubrimetal’s engineering division has a complete range of equipment for mechanical descaling, includ- ing mechanical descalers (type VERTICAL and type SIMPLER), ten different models of rotating die-holders, and the Helix series, multi-purpose helicoidal brushes for wire cleaning.

In operation, the rod is pulled through the scale breaker by the wire drawing machine. properly made for mechanical descaling, 80-90% of the loose scale falls from the rod and collects in the scale breaker cabinet. On rod

Pickling plant upgrade in Poland Tenova Strip Processing Business Unit was recently awarded a contract by Arcelor Mittal Steel Poland: a turnkey project for a Tenova Key Technologies acid regeneration plant, and the revamping and upgrade of a pickling line in Kraków, Poland. The acid regeneration plant, a particularly effective unit in emissions control, will implement Sprayroaster technology and latest-generation automation, for a production capacity of 7,000 litres/hour.
