University of Reading: What’s in your basket?

The Produce Tent Come and see how the food chain works with an interactive demonstrations, from raw material to the finished product. Watch and help a baker make cakes using vegetables, help the apple man produce the freshest apple juice and see how pressing the yellow fields of spring can produce oil. You can also sample a well- known local ale so the tent has something to attract and interest everyone! Berkshire Young Farmers If you’re interested in learning new skills, making new friends and competing in a variety of competitions, then why not visit the Berkshire Young Farmers stand for more information as well as some have-a-go activities for all the family. You can also find the Vintage Area and the Cookery Theatre within this Zone. See pages 34 and 39 for more information on this sections.

Visit the University of Reading’s stand to discover the journey food takes before it arrives in your basket. Their amazing research will take you from the Second World War to the modern day, as you learn about everything from pollination to pesticides, and food processing to additives. Join them at their award- winning stand for family friendly hands- on fun where you will learn about the small steps we can all take to stop food waste in its tracks. Newbury & District Beekeepers Come and view a hive of live honey bees working hard to provide us with yummy honey! Their stand is quite literally buzzing with information and members are more than happy to dish out helpful tips and advice for anyone interested in beekeeping.
