Global Linkages

The Arctic region is changing. It is dealing with multiple pressures and drivers of change from both inside and outside the region that are affecting ecosystems, climate and human society. The consequences have knock-on effects at the local, regional and global levels. The pace and extent of change means that the Arctic and the rest of the world will be a very different place in the decades to come. Adapting to the changes is a major challenge for people in the Arctic and beyond. Global Linkages: A graphic look at the changing Arctic examines three interlinked topics: climate change, pollution and biodiversity. It provides visual representations of some of the most prominent changes in the region and how they are linked to the rest of the world. The publication highlights why these challenges can no longer be managed in isolation. It also calls for a holistic, ecosystem-based approach to promote a sustainable future for the Arctic that will also benefit the rest of the world.
