Community Matters: Pitch in at Chedemption

Wow!! In 2018, volunteers from 13 island nonprofits packed and shipped off well over 150,000 cans and bottles. Impressive as those numbers sound, this task is never ending, and we need your help to keep this Chebeague Island Council program running. The schedule for each nonprofit is listed below and posted on the back wall of the Chedemption shed under the roll of plastic bags as well as on the door of the Community Center. Each nonprofit is asked to provide 27 hours of coverage during their week in return for a share of the proceeds. Your participation benefits each participating nonprofit, keeps several tons of trash from our waste stream, and helps ensure that our roadsides are free from bottle and can litter. So please call your favorite nonprofit and sign up for a slot or two! The Chedemption “Baggettes” could also use your help with the weekly task of loading boxes and bags for transport to Chandlers Wharf every Thursday at 7:45 a.m. Meet us at the transfer station.
