EN There are three things essential to any neighbourhood of an Arabmedina. The first: a mosque in order to pray. In these walled cities, a communal bread oven should never be lack- ing either. The third ‘must’ is the hammam. Of course, traditional public baths have changed their function since the times when they were used solely for personal hygiene. Most of all for women. The hammam is their spa, which is why they take along everything required for a genuine beauty ritual: henna, ghassoul... And, of course, argan oil. Used over centuries by Berber women for their skin and hair, argan oil has not gone unnoticed by the cosmetics industry. In this product, they have discovered a ‘star ingredient’, most of all when it comes to fighting the signs of ageing or sun damage to the skin.

DE Es gibt drei Dinge, die in keiner „Medina” (Altstadt arabischer Städte) fehlen dürfen: eine Moschee für das Gebet, ein öffentlicher Back- ofen und ein Hammam. Es wurde früher nur zu hygienischen Zwecken benutzt, insbeson- dere von Frauen, doch heutzutage steht Ham- mam für ein öffentliches Bad. Man könnte es praktisch auch als arabisches Spa betrachten, weil dort viele Produkte verwendet werden, z. B. Henna oder Ghassoul, dieman sonst nur in Schönheitssalons findet. Nicht zu vergessen das berühmte Arganöl, das die Berberfrauen schon seit Jahrhunderten für Haut und Haar verwenden. Vor einiger Zeit hat es nun auch die Kosmetikindustrie als neue „Star-Zutat” zur Behandlung von alters- oder sonnenbe- dingten Hautproblemen entdeckt.

ES Hay tres cosas imprescindibles en una medina árabe. La primera, unamezquita para orar. Un horno público tampoco suele faltar en estas ciudades amuralladas. El tercer elemento imprescindible es el hammam. Claro que el típico baño público ha cambiado su función desde que era utilizado con fines puramente higiénicos. Sobre todo para lasmujeres. El hammames su spa, por eso lleva consigo todos los enseres necesarios para un auténtico ritual de belleza: henna, ghasul… Y , cómo no, el aceite de argán. Utilizado desde hace siglos por lasmujeres bereberes para el cuidado de su piel y su cabello, el aceite de argán no ha pasado inadvertido por la industria cosmética, que ha descubierto en él uno de los ingredientes ‘estrella’, sobre todo, a la hora de combatir los estragos que la edad y el sol provocan en la piel.
