The San Diego College for Women's year­ book is the Alcala which captures the spirit of the university during the spring and fall terms. A small, but enthusiastic, staff worked throughout the year to produce a truly representative recording of 1964-65.

The Alcala Park Players is the drama club at the San Diego College for Women. The members are devoted to promoting and producing dramatic productions at the college, and in sponsoring interest in dramatics elsewhere in the city. Their two major productions were Burnt Flower Bed by Ugi Bett, and You Can't Take It With You by Kaufman and Hart. The members of the club participate in other plays dur­ ing the year also.

Women's Athletic Association

The Women's Athletic Association fosters collegiate enthusiasm by arranging for in­ tramural competition in volleyball, basket­ ball, and tennis; by encouraging extracur­ ricular activities such as golfing and boat­ ing; by competing with other San Diego groups; and by awarding the "Spirit Ban­ ner" to deserving classes, during the vari­ ous sports seasons.

The Science Club is a campus organization which promotes student scientific interests through speech­ es by faculty, guests, and girls who have done in­ dependent research. Along with lectures and field trips, the members also publish a newsletter with scholarly articles and information about graduates who are working in various scientific fields.

The Congregation of the Children of Mary of the Sacred Heart, con­ secrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, is the spiritual organiza­ tion at the College. Its members strive for closer union with Christ through Mary and a more active and meaningful participation in the liturgy of the Catholic Church. Weekly discussions are held by the members, and the club sponsors guest lecturers and workshops on topics concerned with the commitment of a Child of Mary to Christ in His Apostolate.

The Tabernacle Society is quietly at work through­ out the year designing and making liturgical vest­ ments, to be presented as gifts for such occasions as Christmas and Easter. Many of the churches in San Diego enjoy the vestments.

International Relations Club

The International Relations Club fosters stu­ dent interest and participation in politics and world happenings. It provides for group discussions on current issues, for guest speakers, and for participation in the meeting of the Model United Nations. The Club this year conducted a mock pres­ idential election, before which guest speak­ ers of the Republican and Democratic Par­ ties spoke.

Speakers' Bureau

The Speakers' Bureau has as its primary objectives the training of its members in the art of speaking and leadership. Discussions on topics of student in­ terest are conducted at the meetings, and the club provides speakers for civic organizations. This year the Speakers' Bureau combined with that of the College for Men in a program which brought mem­ bers of each club to the Seniors in the Parish High Schools of Religion and to Junior Colleges through­ out San Diego. The students spoke on the ad­ vantages of higher education, especially in a Catholic College.

Language Clubs The French and the Spanish Clubs are two of the language groups at the College. These clubs meet regularly and study the people, culture, and language of France and Spain. They sponsor field trips, lectures and movies to acquaint the students with Spanish and French speaking peoples. The meetings are designed to provide opportuni­ ties to practice the foreign language.
