esses Local Free breast screening at Robina Community Centre now BreastScreen Queensland’s mobile service, which provides free breast screening to thousands of Gold Coast women each year, is currently visiting Robina Community Centre until July 9. BreastScreen Queensland Gold Coast Service Health Promotion Officer Julia Foreman understands that many women put off having their regular breastscreen simply because it can be difficult to find the time to attend, even though the appointment itself only takes around 15 minutes. “Providing free screening in such a handy location as this is one way BreastScreen Queensland is making it easier for busy women to attend this potentially life saving health check,” Julia said. “Conveniently located right next door to Robina Town Centre, it’s a perfect chance for women to have their breastscreen done, before treating themselves to some retail therapy or grabbing the groceries, all in one handy trip,” she said. “Ladies may also choose to encourage a friend to book their breast screening at the same time, and then catch up for some refreshments afterwards as a reward for taking care of their health.” A breastscreen is recommended every two years for women aged between 50 and 74, as this is the age group where the benefits of screening are most evident. All women, without breast cancer symptoms, are eligible to access this free service from the age of 40. Services are also permanently located at Helensvale, Southport andWest Burleigh.
