HOW TO MANAGE DOGS IN OUR FOOD BUSINESS

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure that team members with responsibilities for the Bar, Garden and Kitchen know how to manage all dogs entering the business do it in a safe and hygienic manner

TRAINING METHOD: Explanation and Questioning

EXPLAIN TO THE TEAM: Dogs, other than assistance dogs, are only permitted to enter the premises at the Manager’s discretion. Other pets will be discouraged from entering the bar area, and dogs will only be allowed if they are well behaved, on a leash and do not interfere with other guests enjoyment. The final decision regarding allowing dogs will be at the discretion of the Duty Manager. Discuss house specific rules with the team If allowed, facilities such as fresh drinking water will be provided outside for dogs if required and regularly topped up as necessary (especially on hot days). Dog bowls must not be washed in any food preparation sink or the dishwasher. The Manager has the right to refuse service to any guest who is not taking control of their dog, this includes allowing the dog to defecate on the premises and not cleaning it up EXPLAIN TO THE TEAM: Personal Hygiene is vitally important when allowing team members to pet and stroke Dogs in the garden or business, to reduce the risk of cross contamination always follow the Personal Hygiene rules. Wash your hands after:  Stroking the dog  Filling the dogs water bowl up  Pets belonging to the manager or members of his/her family must not enter food rooms under any circumstances, or any other areas of the premises where company business is carried out, except for access to and from the Manager’s accommodation.  Pets must be kept under control at all times and not damage company property.  If kept in a private garden at the business, the area must be kept clean and free of excrement at all times Managers Own Pets

RE-CAP WITH THE GROUP:  Team members will wash their hands thoroughly after touching/refilling the dogs’ bowl. The dogs’ bowl must be washed out separately from food equipment and must not be washed in either the food sink or dishwasher.  Team members are not to interact / touch dogs whilst on duty and must ensure that they thoroughly wash their hands and change their uniform should physical contact be made with a dog during working hours.  Dogs must not be allowed to enter food preparation or storage areas.
