Whilst at work you must only use the 3 and 7 tread company approved stepladders. These have a standing platform and high hand rail. If these ladders are not available, then ladders must comply to EN131 and can carry at least 175kg.
COMPANY POLICY:
The maximum height team members can reach when working at height is 3.3m. (1.5m working platform from the company approved 7 tread stepladders plus 1.8m that an average person can reach If you need to reach above this height a Maintenance Contractor must be used
EXERCISE:
Get the team to look at your own ladders and stepladders. Assess their suitability to do the job Query whether there are alternative working practices that you can adopt that makes it unnecessary to use the ladder or stepladder Decide upon the best procedure for tackling each job and number of people required to perform the tasks Update the Specific Risk Assessments in the Risk Assessment Folder Make sure the stepladder and /or ladder is in good order. If the equipment is damaged, unsafe put it out of reach of use and contact your manager/RBM
The Manager must ensure the ladders are checked regularly and recorded on the Blue Sky due diligence system
