HOW TO SAFELY USE THE PRESSURE WASHER

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure the team members are aware of the safe use of the Pressure Washer.

TRAINING AIDS:  Pressure washer  RCD socket

 Water tap  Hosepipe

TRAINING METHOD: This is a practical training exercise. The trainer should demonstrate how to use the Pressure Washer to the group whilst referring to these training notes

ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: What could go wrong when using a pressure washer?

CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER:  Electrocution  Trips/falls  Eye injuries  Cuts/abrasions from water pressure

How to use the Pressure Washer safely:

Prepare the equipment before completing the training

 Check machine is in good condition with no cracks or splits to casing  Check electrical cable is sound. No splits or exposed wires  Plug should be a sealed type, preventing water entering it  Power socket should be covered if external and be an RCD type (rated IP56)

(examples of RCD sockets)

 Extension leads should not be used for pressure washers – arrange for electrician to install external waterproof RCD socket if required  Safety goggles are available for task
