Gas safety is important in our businesses to ensure that employees use the equipment safely, know how to identify issues and know how to turn off the gas supply in an emergency such as a fire.
Key Risks – incomplete combustion causes
Cutting off the gas supply in case of an emergency: Know the location of the gas safety shut off valve in your kitchen (it will look similar to picture) It may be part of the Extract control panel or a separate push button. Ensure it is clearly visible, easy to reach and not obstructed in any way by equipment or other items In an emergency the Gas can be cut off by hitting the red button.
The gas supply to each appliance can also be turned off using the Isolation Valve. Turn the handle so it is 90 degrees to the pipe
Gas appliances should be secured to the wall using a chain or wire, to prevent pipes being disconnected when equipment is moved for cleaning. If chain/wire is not present or incorrectly fitted, report the fault to your manager Gas pipework to oven should be in a suitable safe condition, off the floor, with no kinks, cracks or splits to pipe In event of discovering a fault, turn off gas supply and DO NOT USE the equipment –Report fault to your manager
