HOW TO USE A CATERING HAND HELD BLOW TORCH

PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure that staff who use and store a hand held blow torch do this in a safe manner

TRAINING METHOD: This is a practical training exercise. The trainer should demonstrate how to use the hand held blow torch to the group whilst referring to these training notes.

EXPLAIN TO THE TEAM:

Read the instructions before use. Familiarise yourself with the appliance before connecting it to the gas cartridge. This appliance is only to be used with butane battery A4 cartridges. Some Parts of this appliance become very hot during use. This appliance is not a toy. Connect the cartridge to the appliance out of doors and away from other people and sources of heat or flame. This appliance is powerful. Be sure surrounding materials and surfaces are heat resistant. Use well away from flammable surfaces such as walls or counter tops.

Storage of the hand held blow torch

• Only 1 pack of refills can be kept on site.

• Detach gas cartridge from blow torch when not in use. • Refills to be kept in a ventilated store room out of the kitchen. • Store away from the cook line and other sources of ignition. • Never use or store gas cartridges near deep fat fryers, electric hobs or other sources of heat or flame. • Torches must be turned off when not in use and not left running in case they get knocked over and cause a fire. • Do not store in direct sunlight or where temperatures may rise over 40 degrees.
