 Place on a flat an stable surface, not next to a range or grill  Do not press the control panel with sharp objects such as a knife  Pre – programme for speedy service  Only use the microwave for products that are suitable to be cooked inside the equipment, proteins and meats are not to be reheated in the microwave unless the brand cook book specifies. ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: What must you use to remove debris and wipe out the microwave? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER:  Detergent with yellow cloth followed by Sanitiser spray and paper towel ASK QUESTION TO GROUP : Why must you never use foil as a food covering in a microwave? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER:  It could start a fire, deflecting the heat source/microwaves back into the microwave ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: Why must food be covered when being cooked in a microwave? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER:  To prevent overcooking of products, to stop food splashes on fan and plastic roof  Only put food in microwave safe pots – reused food containers can soften causing the hot product to spill out causing burns.  Ensure liquids are covered with cling film to help reduce spills if the container is tipped when unloading.  Microwaves should not be located at high level due to the risk of spills and burns to the arm / chest. Company policy states the base must be no higher than 1.3m, inform your manager if you are struggling to reach.  Always ensure you unload the microwave using an oven cloth to prevent burns and that bare arms are covered.
