PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING EXERCISE: To ensure that all team members know how to clean the walls and floors safely
TRAINING AIDS: Company approved floor cleaner and multi-purpose detergent Clean Disposable Yellow Cloth Red Mop and Bucket Squeegee and deck scrub Yellow wet floor sign
TRAINING METHOD: This is a practical training exercise. The trainer should demonstrate how to clean the walls and floors to the group whilst referring to these training notes.
ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: Why is it important to clean walls regularly? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER: To remove the build up of dirt, grease and grime It’s a legal requirement ASK QUESTION TO GROUP: Why is it important to keep floors clean and free from spillages? CONFIRM CORRECT ANSWER: To avoid slips and trips occurring It’s a legal requirement All spillages must be cleaned up immediately
EXPLAIN TO THE TEAM:
If you have to reach high level areas use the company approved step ladders Always follow the step ladder policy Do not stand on equipment, stools, chairs or crates Always have someone hold the ladder for you Warn the rest of the team you are cleaning Display the yellow wet floor sign. Where possible use extendable cleaning poles rather than stepladders – ask your manager if they are used in your business.

Remove all posters and fire equipment Using the multi-purpose detergent spray walls starting at the bottom Wipe over with clean damp cloth If walls are heavily soiled use a scourer Allow to air dry Mop up any spillages on floor Replace all posters and fire equipment
