DOCTOR OF NURSING

POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE

About the Programme The Doctorate of Nursing Programme was launched in 2010. The curriculum is planned to develop the knowledge and skills of individual nurses to function effectively as advanced leaders in academic and service settings and to be nurse practitioners at the highest level of practice. Course Delivery Part 1 is taken over 18 months. Candidates will take 6 modules (120 credits). Part 1 must be completed successfully before proceeding to Part 2. Part 2 comprises the doctoral thesis (40,000 words) with 150 credits undertaken during the last 18 months of the programme. The total credits for the degree is 270 credits. Entry Requirements • Compliance with UCC’s graduate study admission requirements. • Completion of a Master’s degree in nursing or related discipline. • Registered Nurse or Midwife with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or be qualified for such a registration. • Have a minimum of one-year post master’s experience or provide evidence that they can perform at this level thereby satisfying the University that they have the ability to complete the programme.
