Welcome to SUNY TEAM

We’re a consortium of SUNY community colleges, New York businesses and economic development agencies. Our mission is to develop training and educational programs that meet employers’ needs in high-tech industries where the state’s demand for skilled workers is high and continuing to grow. We will serve more than 3,000 TAA-eligible workers and veterans through seven newly created technical programs. All are designed to help students complete certificates in as little as 9-18 months—qualifying them to take well-paying jobs that can lead to fulfilling careers.

Advanced Manufacturing & Machining

The innovations in manufacturing and machining processes (and possibilities)

have been game changing in recent years. Technically skilled employees

are needed now more than ever. Engineering firms and other businesses

are eager for workers with training in computer-aided design, electrical

technology and machine tooling, to name only a few. In many areas, jobs

outnumber qualified applicants. SUNY TEAM training will get them qualified.

The curricula include Engineering Drawing, Manufacturing Processes,

Electrical Technology, Electronics and Solid Modeling, among others.

Nanoscale manufacturing, methods and tools have changed our world—

Nanotechnology

think smart phone and nuclear medicine. New materials and devices

developed at this level surface daily. Our Semiconductor & Nanotechnology

program provides students with skills in basic micro- and nanofabrication

procedures. Nanomaterials require special handling and design. Our

collaboration with local area semiconductor (solid conductive substances)-

and nanotechnology (engineering at a molecular level)-based manufacturers

helps students acquire the technical skills needed. Our new certificate

program will provide entry into this incredibly exciting field.

Demand for optical technologists is greater than the supply. We want to change that.

Optical Technology

Optical technologists design and manufacture optical instruments, including

lenses, microscopes and telescopes. The work calls for a disciplined, precise

set of skills. We deliver. Graduates of our certificate program have always

been in high demand—with more jobs than qualified people. Encourage

Photovoltaics is now the world’s third most important renewable energy source. .

Photovoltaics

Photovoltaics (PV) is the conversion of solar energy into direct current

electricity via PV systems—such as those found in solar panels. Business,

and the need for this renewable energy source, is booming. Our program

outlines the possibilities, management, fabrication and installation of this

emergent technology.

Plastics

Engine filters. Toys. Syringes. Plastic components keep cars running,

children happy and diabetics healthy. The uses of plastics are legion, as

are its manufacturing facilities. Due to the sheer quantity needed, most

plastic manufacturers use automated production systems. Technicians

monitor and maintain these lines. Our program’s students will study the

characteristics, systems and manufacturing processes of a broad range

of plastics. They will be able to read blueprints, write technical reports and

use relevant computer applications.

Precision machinists drill, cut and shape high-tech materials.

CNC Precision Machining

Computer Numerical Control (CNC) precision machining is about

control—incredibly precise control. Computer-guided systems produce

goods and materials in a whole new way. However, these sophisticated

machines can’t run themselves. Well-trained technicians are needed to

operate them. The academic coursework, labs and on-site experience

allow program graduates to enter or advance in such fields as mold,

model or die making; machine repair and CNC machining. An experienced

CNC operator can earn as much as $60,000 annually.

Well-trained welders can make as much as $50,000 annually.

Welding

Welding is an art. A practical one. Whether creating a wrought iron fence

or repairing an industrial pipeline, there is beauty and a good living in this

centuries-old process. For those who like to work with their hands and are

good communicators and problem solvers, our certificate program could

be the perfect fit. At completion, students will be able to perform and

inspect quality welds, read and fabricate from blueprints and write specs.
