Chebeague United Methodist Church News

chebeaguechurch@chebeague.net 846-4106 www.chebeagueumc.org www.facebook.com/chebeagueislandumc/ Office Hours — We’re excited to announce our new Administrative Assistant, Deb Bowman. Regular office hours are Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Parish House. Stop by to say hello. Pastor’s Schedule —Melissa can be reached on Wednesdays through Sundays by appointment or during office hours on Thursdays. She can be reached on Mondays and Tuesdays in case of emergency. Contact her at ml.yosuadavis@ gmail.com or at the parsonage at 846-4106. Growing with Hope — Who are we when we are at our best? That’s the question that the Growing with Hope team needs your help to answer! Over the next several weeks in worship, we want your input on several questions to help us refine our core values. You may respond on Sunday morning in worship, on our Facebook page, or by stopping by the Parish House. We need to know what is important to the wider community as we think about who we are as a church and how we can best serve you all. Booklet from Annual Meeting — Thank you to everyone who came to our annual church conference on October 16. We’re thankful for all that has been done this past year—and all that is to come in 2017! If you would like a copy of the booklet, which consists of reports from various committees in the church, as well as from the pastor and lay leader, please email chebeagueislandumc@ gmail.com . Sunday School — Sunday School is under way at 9:45 a.m. at the Parish House each week. Kids of all ages are welcome, though our Deep Blue Kids One Room Schoolhouse curriculum focuses on children ages 3 through 12 with videos, stories, and more! Contact Cheryl Hillicoss at i.m.imaginable@gmail.com for

more information on how you or your children can get involved. Many thanks to the United Methodist Foundation of New England for awarding us a grant to kickstart this program! Race and Faith — Starting the week of October 30, we’ll be offering a 4-week discussion group on race and faith: specifically on white privilege through the black/white divide in our country and the spiritual healing that comes as we learn how to see and experience race through new eyes. We’ll be using resources offered by the United Church of Christ. For more information, email Melissa and check the Church Calendar and our Facebook page for more specifics around dates and times. God Bless Us, Everyone: The Redemption of Scrooge — November 27 marks the beginning of Advent —the time of watching and waiting as we get ready for Christmas. This year, we’ll worship and study together using Matt Rawle’s book The Redemption of Scrooge , which examines Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol and what it has to teach us about living a life of faith. After all, if Scrooge got a second chance, don’t we all deserve one? We’ll have movie- watching parties, small group studies, and more! What Are You Looking for? — God is always seeking us, but sometimes, we don’t have the tools at our disposal to find God in the midst of our everyday life. If you’d like to learn more about practices that help you listen to God, contact Melissa. Thank You from the Food Pantry — A special thank you to all who thought of the food pantry as you closed up your cottages for the season. Your donation was gratefully received, and much of it has already been passed along!
