Notes from the Chebeague Island Council

The Council had a very busy and productive October. Forty-three islanders came for their flu shot on the 14 th !! Thank you to all who helped and to Mac and Beth for the wonderful donuts. I think folks come for the donuts and get a flu shot as an afterthought. Maybe we should call it the Donut Clinic and offer the flu shot if you want one…. The Council has been working hard to ensure health care services are available on the island. We met with MaineHealth and are very excited to announce that Steve Baybutt, RN, MS, will be coming to the Wellness Center every other Tuesday starting November 1. He will be here from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. No appointment is needed, and there is no charge for this service. These hours could be increased if needed, and through MaineHealth, the Council will be able to offer expanded services such as foot care clinics at both the Wellness Center and the Commons. Steve is able to do many things including blood draws, INR tests, blood pressure checks, wound care, suture removal, immunizations, and home visits for chronic illness monitoring to name a few. We

are happy to say, again, that these services will be available to islanders at no charge. He will be able to go to the Commons as well. There are plans to offer school health programs that will be both fun and educational. Steve has a master’s degree in nursing and holds Certifications in Emergency Nursing, Trauma Nursing, Pediatric Emergency Nursing, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Basic Life Support as well as specializing in Telehealth and Rapid Response. A resident of Yarmouth, Steve has been a soccer coach and knows many island families. He and his wife, a reading specialist in the Falmouth school system, have two children in elementary school in Yarmouth and have deep roots in the Littlejohn Island community. Please stop in the Wellness Center and meet Steve on Tuesday November 1. Iwant to thank the community for all their support and encouragement while the Council has been working to ensure the availability of health care services on the island. I believe our growing partnership with MaineHealth will bring new and exciting health care opportunities for islanders of all ages. See you Tuesday morning November 1!
