UCL Review 2015 16

The Second Round was notable for a spectacular scoring feat from Oadby’s Ollie Brown-Hill who was on target six times in a 7-1 Poachers success at Rushden & Higham. Kev Charley was the other visiting marksman. Two Lewis Webb penalties and a Jordan Macleod strike saw Peterborough Sports dispose of local rivals Peterborough Northern Star 3-0 while Olney outgunned hosts Oakham 4-1 to reach the last eight with James Sage, Christian Smail, Jack Weeden and Danny Webb on the mark. Jake Clitheroe’s double gave Holbeach a 2-1 verdict at Kirby Muxloe. The two leading contenders for Premier honours made their exits at this stage. Leicester Nirvana lost 5-4 on penalties at Wisbech after a goalless draw while Ebey Marango’s added time goal sent AFC Kempston crashing 1-0 at Eynesbury. Goals from Luke Emery and Jack Bowen gave Cogenhoe a 2-0 win at Harrowby and Boston Town took their goal tally to 13 in three ties with a 5-3 extra time victory at Sileby. Jordan Nuttell scored two for the Poachers whose other scorers were Richard Ford, Craig Parker and Alex Beck. The highest scoring quarter final saw Wisbech overcome a spirited Olney challenge with a 4-2 win at the Ellgoods Stadium, Billy Smith and Adam Millson scoring two apiece. Division One interest was kept alive by a 2- 0 Peterborough Sports win at Oadby with goals from Karl Gibbs and Dan Clements. A solitary Jack Bowen goal saw Cogenhoe overcome Eynesbury 1-0 at Compton Park while another close contest saw Chris Ward’s goal give Holbeach a 1-0 passage against a depleted Boston Town. In the first semi final Peterborough Sports claimed a third higher grade scalp, winning 2-0 at Cogenhoe to ensure Division One representation in the final for the second season in succession. Jordan Macleod and Josh Moreman netted for the Division One champions elect. The Fenland derby at Carters Park saw Holbeach defeat Wisbech 2-0. A Josh Ford penalty and late Sean Coughlan clincher condemned the Fenmen to a last four exit for a second successive season. The final at Deeping was spoiled by the windy conditions with few clear chances arising in two hours of football. Peterborough Sports custodian Luke McShane was the busier of the keepers, making good saves from Holbeach’s Lee Beeson late in the 90 minutes and from Andy Tidswell in extra time, but a penalty contest was needed to settle the issue. In the shootout Holbeach pair Tidswell and Jordan Thomas converted either side of a Josh Sanders opener for Sports before a Travis Portas save from Ali Nyang handed the Tigers the initiative, but only briefly, as McShane saved from Beeson enabling Dan Lawlor to level. Nerves started to creep in as Tigers top scorer Josh Ford struck the bar with his kick and Dan Clements was thwarted by Portas, but Holbeach’s Oli Donald and Sports’ Jordan Macleod both converted the last of the regulation five kicks. The first four sudden death kicks were converted by Holbeach pair Stacy Cartwright and Adam Jackson and Sports duo Avelino Vieira and Jack Bloodworth. McShane then made a vital save from Jake Clitheroe before Ollie Medwynter slotted home to give Sports a 6-5 win and place in UCL history.
