UCL Review 2015 16

In the Second Qualifying Round nine clubs out of twenty were successful. Two Division One clubs saw off Premier opposition in derby contests. A first half Ricky Chambers goal saw Raunds beat Wellingborough 1-0 at Kiln Park while at Lincoln Road an extra time Dan Evans goal saw Blackstones claim a second higher scalp as they beat Peterborough Northern Star 1-0. A third inter divisional encounter went with status as AFC Kempston beat Long Buckby 3-0 with Shane Bush, Jamaine Ivy and Ash Fuller the marksmen for the Walnut Boys. Two Taylor Orosz goals and one from Jack Bowen saw Cogenhoe see off visitors AFC Hayes 3-1 while Chris Francis and two goal Lee Bassett gave Eynesbury a 3-1 verdict against Fakenham at Hall Road, Sam Hill’s extra time goal gave Harrowby a 1-0 home win over Leicester Road while a second half comeback from Northampton Spencer saw them defeat Harpenden 3-2 at Kingsthorpe Mill with Matt Long, Lance Allen and Alex Lowery the scorers. Biggest winners of the round were Sileby who handed New Bradwell a 7-2 Fernie Fields drubbing. Leon Simpson, three goal Ife Ogunbayo, Brian Farrell, Stuart Macmichael and Ryan Cottingham netted for Lee Duffy’s men. The First Round saw the nine survivors of the qualifying rounds joined by exempt club Wisbech but the Fenmen made a quick exit, losing 4-0 at home to Alvechurch. All in all it was a very poor day for our clubs with six more joining the Fenmen in bowing out. Northampton Spencer took an early lead at Berkhamsted through Liam Tuck before going down 5-1, while Eynesbury lost a thrilling encounter at Hertford 4-3 with Joe Bradbury and Lee Bassett on the scoresheet along with an own goal. Cogenhoe’s floodlight problems saw them give up ground advantage to Biggleswade United who capitalised to run out 2-0 winners. Two clubs lost in extra time. Harrowby went down 4-2 at AFC Wulfrunians, Billy Stubbs and Scott Webb their marksmen, while Blackstones lost a two goal lead in a 3-2 reverse at home to Haughmond. Jones De Sousa and Jordan Avis scored the Stones goals. Wins for AFC Kempston and Sileby brightened the gloom. The Walnut Boys won a tight encounter at Ilford with a late Shane Bush goal, while Sileby outgunned Wembley 5-4 in a classic Fernie Fields encounter. Two Stuart Macmichael goals and one each from Mark Edge, Ife Ogunbayo and Troy Johnston took Rangers through. Three more exempt clubs joined the fray in Round Two. Yaxley made an impact with a 3-2 win over fancied visitors London Colney, Dan Cotton, Sam Spencer and Jon Stead on target in the Cuckoos’ success, but the previous season’s best performers on the national stage Holbeach crashed 4-1 at Walsall Wood, Josh Ford the Tigers marksman. AFC Kempston took a first half lead at Berkhamsted through Dom Marsala’s penalty before exiting 3-1 while Sileby featured in another high scoring tie, losing 7-1 at Basildon with Stuart Macmichael their marksman.

Our clubs won prize money totalling £22,100 over the course of the season.
