USD, however, has a defense that has al- lowed its last two opponents an average of 163 yards total offense per game and will be playing before a homecom- ing crowd. Freshmen quarterbacks Jimbo Harris and Roy Blakeway trigger a USIU offense which has been ef- fective through the air but sluggish on the ground recently. USD has a veteran pass defense which could pose problems for the West- erners. On the other hand, howev- er, USD has had consider- able offensive difficulty of late and will need productiv- ity from quarterback Jim Valenzuela and running backs Nils Ericson and Joffre Chess 1f it hopes to achieve the type of ball-con- trol success that Williams deems necessary to win.
