Verano Life Guide 2018

Playtime–it’s a team effort

Baseball, softball, soccer, lacrosse, golf—sporting activities are huge in St. Lucie County. Verano residents can enjoy a variety of spectator sports, from Little League baseball tournaments to MLB spring training, which attracts visitors from around the world. Rick Hatcher, executive director of the Treasure Coast Sports Commission, said, “Spring training is a huge tourism and economic driver for February and March. The Mets are a long-standing tradition.” During the spring and summer months, the St. Lucie Mets, a New York Mets minor league affiliate, draw their own local fans, providing affordable family fun. And there’s more. The Treasure Coast Sports Commission helps bring a wide variety of additional sporting events to the Treasure Coast, including baseball, softball, golf and soccer, while the beach areas are popular spots for surfing tournaments and stand-up paddleboard competitions. St. Lucie’s location—three hours fromMiami and Tampa, less than two hours fromOrlando, and only 40 minutes from Palm Beach International Airport—make it ideal for regional, state and national events.
