Piql is providing an innovative holistic solution for secure, ofline data storage and aims to reshape how long-term digital preservation is done. During the last 10 years Piql has developed a unique and disruptive technology that is redefining se- cure data storage and setting the standards for migration-free long-term digital preservation. We have been supported by prestigous EU and Norwegian Innovation and R&D programs and mrope than EUR 35 million has been invested.

OUR GOAL IS TO: • change the way the world is preserving valuable data for future use; • enable data owners to secure their data and protect them from manipulation, - securing privacy; • significantly reduce the cost of long-term preservation - offering a cost saving of 60% to 80%; • liberate data owners from technology and vendor lock-in; • make our holistic solution the world leader within a global and growing niche market We are honored to have EU’s Horizon 2020 support for our solution for secure data storage and long-term digital preservation. Piql Services are ready to go to the market and the support from EU in our commercialization and scale up phase gives us a unique opportunity to engage and help our potential clients with the challenges they are facing when it comes to safeguarding their irreplaceable data. We would like to invite potential users of our technology and solution to join our project and try out our Services at no cost as a Pilot Client. WHAT IS IN IT FOR YOU AS A PILOT CLIENT? You will have the chance to test a new and innovative Service for secure data storage and long-term digital preser- vation in the form of a Pilot Project to you’re your data on our piqlFilm without any cost for you. You can benefit from the aggregated experience an insight of the whole global

Piql organization relative to assessing your specific needs and challenges. We are interested to learn and understand your issues within ultra-secure data storage and long-term digital preservation, and then shape a solution for you that will give you clear measurable benefits. We will work together with you to define a specific and clear Use-Case (i.e. how the application of Piql Services can solve a specific problem (“pain”) and/or generate a specific solution to create value (“gain”) for you as a potential Client. Further we shall jointly assess and verify the specific Business-Case related to your unique Use-Case. I.e will Piql Services give you any value or benefits in economic terms or will it give any technical, operational or strategic benefits? Preferably compare it to your existing or alternative solution. We shall also jointly assess and verify the ingest of your data to Piql Services, verify the performance and capabilities of the storage medium (i.e. piqlFilm) relative to your specific data set, as well as the read-back of data and the interfaces and potential integration with your existing systems. There are no further expectations on your contribution, other than completing the Pilot Project and to give us your open feedback on your experiences upon completion of the Pilot Project.

We offer to store up to 240 GB (i.e. two reels of piqlFilm) of your most valuable digital data without any cost for you.

The data must be born digital or have already been digitized (We can potentially assist you to digitize your data, but this will be at your cost).

In the pilot we will guide you through the following steps in our Piql Services Journey: Preparation, Ingest, Data Storage and Access:

1: PREPARE • Together we will assess your needs and potential challenges within data storage and preservation • We will share our experience and thinking about “best practice” established through our R&D projects and from working with other Clients globally • Jointly evaluate a dataset that is representative for your needs and that can be implemented into a Pilot Project • Propose relevant storage/preservation formats • Evaluate potential benefits for integration with your ex- isting IT-system/infrastructure e.g. Document Management System (DMS), Content Management System (CMS), Library Management System (LMS), etc. 2: INGEST • Together we will prepare and test the ingest of your data into our Services, either to secure online transfer or trans- fer through (encrypted) physical media • You can test our piqlIngest software • We will transfer your data to piqlFilm and ensure the integrity of your data

3: DATA STORAGE • Evaluate the need and location for physical storage of your data (i.e. piqlFilm in piqlBox and any potential online version of your data) including assessment of potential redundancy requirements • We will introduce you to the Arctic World Archive (Note storage cost not included as part of this project) • As default we will send you your piqlFilm and in this proj- ect it is assumed that you store it yourselves 4: ACCESS • Together we will test and verify the readback of the data from the piqlFilm through the piqlReader • You can test the access module in the Piql Services soft- ware that in addition to retrieval of data from piqlFilm also offers instant online or on-premise access to your data • Having read back the data from your piqlFilm, we will upload the data to your own IT infrastructure • As part of the project we can assess the effort to inte- grate Piql Services with your IT-infrastructure. Such integra- tion can be implemented in a larger project.

FOR INTERESTED PILOT CLIENTS – YOU CAN PILOT TEST A PIQLREADER FOR LOCAL READBACK For potential Clients that typically would like to store their data (i.e. the piqlFilm in the piqlBox) on their own premises, or they would like the convenience of reading back the data from piqlFilm internally (fully independent of Piql), we will be able to offer a full-scale Pilot Test of the piqlReader. • You will find a location to place the piqlReader for the Pilot Test • We will ship and install the piqlReader • You will allocate recourses for the Pilot Test and we will train your staff to use it • You use and test the piqlReader (i.e. reading back your piqlFilm using piqlAccess or piqlConnect and give us feedback) • Together we assess the need for integration with your existing IT-system • You will verify the Use Case and Business Case

There are no further expectations on your contribution, other than completing the Pilot Test and to give us your open feedback on your experiences upon completion of the Pilot Test. Both the Pilot Project – to test your data onpiqlFilm - and Pilot Testing of the piqlReader have already started in select in countries and will now be available in your country. Contact your local Piql Partner for more information about the Piql Service Journey and how to become a Pilot Client and do a Pilot Project as a first step and to conduct a poten- tial Pilot Test of the piqlReader as a second step.

These activities will be conducted in the framework of an innovative and comprehensive EU Horizon2020 project.

RESTORATION

We perform high-quality scanning to digitize paper, motion picture film, microfilm, tape, sound, images and also handle large scale documents such as maps. Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is applied to make the content searchable once digitized. DIGITIZATION

We offer restoration of audio, film or documents. We provide both manual and digital restauration of damages to film, microfilm and LTO-tape. We can also restore sound and correct digital mistakes in the source material.

SECURE DATA TRANSFER Clients can transfer their data electronically through the online portal, the same way one would use a cloud service. Data can also be transferred physically on a secure hard drive with a separate encryption key.

FILE PREPARATION Through consulting with our clients we make recommendations to file formats according to best practice regarding their particular type of files. We provide the conversion from original file format into agreed file format without jeopardizing the authenticity of the information.

CONSULTANCY To ensure our clients gets the solution tailor made to their specific needs, we offer consultancy before and throughout the entire process.

DATA STORAGE While our clients have full control and can access their data online, we securely store their data using our Open Archival Information System (ISO - 14721:2003) solution following the store-and-ignore principle. The data will stay accessible and authentic for as long as our clients need.
