12 Philip Bretsch returns for his senior season with the Toreros where he will again start on defense at defensive back ... last year ranked 3rd on the team in total tackles with 72 (50 solo stops) ... season-best 9 stops vs. Penn... totaled 8 tackles in each of USD's final 3 games... added 2 forced fumbles, 1 fumble recovery and 1 interception (at Butler)... two-time PFL Honor Roll selection ... in 2003 he appeared in all 10 games and finished 7th on the team in tackles with36 stops (17 solo) .. . he tallied 2 quarterback sacks and 2 1/2 tackles for loss ... he also chipped in with 5 pass breakups ... he turned in a game-best 8 tackles against La Verne, and later tallied 7 stops against Valparaiso (6 solo) ... he began his collegiate career at UC San Diego where he played one year of baseball and started in the outfield ... he prepped at Fallbrook High School where as a senior he totaled 8 picks on his way to earning First Team All-CIF, First Team All-Avocado and All-North County honors ... he chose USD for location, academics and great football
