MARIA & ALEJANDRO YOUR ITINERARY

DAY 1 (12th JULY) VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK At 3 pm following your conference at the Marriott Hotel in Kigali, you will be met by your private driver from Thousand Hills who will transfer you to Bisate Lodge. Please note that we estimate this drive will take 3 hours, with an ETA of 6 pm local time. Bisate Lodge has truly raised the bar for eco-luxury travel in Rwanda and East Africa. Operated by the esteemedWilderness Safari group, the lodge not only offers uniquely designed and outstanding accommodation but also a range of exclusive and immersive local experiences. Perfect for travellers looking for a rare and enchanting sense of stunning Rwanda. Bisate Lodge is situated within the amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone in the heart of the Albertine Rift. Lying just outside the Southern border of Volcanoes National Park and close to the town of Kinigi, the lodge is rare in that the location, on a hillside gazing down on the slopes of Mount Bisoke and shielded from the lights of the nearby villages, make guests feel as if they are actually inside the National Park. With only six en-suite forest villas, guests can enjoy an incredibly private and exclusive space amid the landscape. Designed in a typically Rwandan style using all natural materials, the buildings are domed, clad in dried and woven grass and very unique in contract to other hotel properties in the area. The interiors of the rooms are contemporary and soft with dashes of lively colour and all open out onto bamboo balconies facing the forest valley and volcanic peaks. Bisate has a main lounge area with an elegant bar, wine cellar, central fireplace and viewing deck to wile away an afternoon surveying the forest from this elevated sanctuary. The lodge offers a range of enriching and involved experiences. As well as captivating gorilla trekking experiences, guests have the opportunity to extend their knowledge of the natural wildlife with those who are committed and passionate about it. Evening presentations and opportunities to chat with an onsite gorilla expert, researcher or scientist ensure that guests can return home with a well-rounded wildlife experience. The property also offers guided nursery visits to meet their agronomist and the opportunity to get involved in some indigenous tree planting (The lodge has a supply of garden gloves for those wishing to get stuck in!) Guided birding and nature walks can be taken on the property and visits to the local community can be organised as well as running trails, wine tasting and documentary film screenings. Overnight at Bisate Lodge in forest villa (All Inclusive)

DAY 2 (13TH JULY) VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK This morning at 06:30 am, following breakfast, you will be met by your private driver who will transfer you to the park headquarters for your briefing and be assigned a trekking group at 7h00. Then, you will be collected and transferred to your site for Gorilla Trekking adventure. The walk in the forest will be anything from 15 minutes to 7 hours until you reach the animals; however your guide will advise you if it will be a long walk, based on where the gorillas were sighted the previous day. The trek itself, climbing up and down through steep forested rocks, can be exhausting but the thrill of coming face to face with these giant primates and spending an hour with them as they go about their daily life, more than makes up for the time taken in their search. The incredible primates are extremely rare and very few people in the world are lucky enough to see them in their natural habitat. En-route, be sure to enjoy a rich variety of birdlife and other primates. Following your gorilla trek you will be met by your driver who will transfer you to Bisate Lodge, where you will collect your pack lunch. Your driver will then transfer you to the Musanze airstrip to catch your helicopter transfer to Kigali. Please note that your luggage will have left to Kigali in the morning after your check out, please, therefore, ensure you have everything packed before departing on your gorilla trek. On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met and assisted onto your onwards international flight connection, flight QR 1387.

IMPORTANT PRE-DEPARTURE NOTES – PLEASE READ Insurance

Many people get ‘travel cover insurance’ free along with their credit card or bank account. However this may only give you very restricted ‘travel accident cover’, which may not, for example cover routine illness, or an accident that occurs whilst not actually travelling on public transport that was paid for using the card concerned. You should read your card’s terms and conditions very carefully, and remember that, as in most things, ‘you get what you pay for’. The benefit of having peace of mind whilst travelling in somewhere like Africa is well worth the cost of obtaining a proper comprehensive travel cover policy. Please do be aware that it is a condition of booking that you are insured for the full value of your trip with a policy that covers medical repatriation. We are not legally able to sell insurance however many of our European clients use TAGIS (tel 0845 345 3456) or Campbell Irvine (020 7937 6981). Flights to and from Africa Please make sure that you check-in online as soon as the check-in opens (usually 24 hours before departure) for both your outward and return flight. If you require an internal flight to connect with your return flight please ask the hotel that you are staying in the night before to check that the timing of the flight has not changed. Passports and visas It is your responsibility to ensure that you obtain the appropriate visas before departure. This information is correct at the time of printing and it is subject to change. All countries require that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of departure from Africa, and has at least 2 consecutive blank pages per country to be visited. Rwanda A 30-day tourist visa can be obtained on arrival for $30 per person. Credit cards are not accepted at all land border crossings.
