3rd Grade Math Scope & Sequence

Differentiation in Action

Connect to Prior Knowledge : This topic includes a lot of vocabulary that may be unknown to students, specifcally ML students. Be sure to make connections to what students are familiar with to make the measurements less abstract. For example, when measuring capacity, show a water bottle and talk about capacity, what is measured in capacity and how much capacity in the water bottle. Event Planning: Have students plan an event for the class. It could be a massive birthday party, an event to share a culture or an end of year celebration. The event plan needs to include a document of all food and drinks being served with specifc measurements ( gram, liter, quarts, etc.) and justifcation that it will be enough for everyone. Also, a schedule of events needs to be included with a time each event will start, stop and the time elapsed for each event. Last of all, how much space is needed for the event and what size tables and clothes need to be ordered.

STEM Projects: Forces and Interactions

Strand: Force Affects Motion Standard 3.3.4: Ask questions to plan and carry out an investigation to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other. Emphasize how static electricity and magnets can cause objects to move without touching. Examples could include the force an electrically charged balloon has on hair, how magnet orientation affects the direction of a force, or how distance between objects affects the strength of a force. Electrical charges and magnetic felds will be taught in Grades 6 through 8
