Failure to follow and abide by these expectations may result in discipline up to and including dismissal from City employment. The following expectations are divided into subcategories of: Performance; Behavior; Safety; Attendance; and Stewardship. A. Performance • Perform your job duties accurately, efficiently, competently, diligently, and satisfactory including the quality and quantity of work; • Accept and execute proper assignments by an authorized supervisor; • Handle and store confidential information according to laws, policies, procedures, and/or The P&C Director may approve dismissals of any employees other than the City Manager, City Attorney, Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Managers and Department Directors. 5.2 Supervisors and managers should contact the P&C Employee Success Partner assigned to their department before initiating any discipline or the Critical Decision process contained in this policy to include use of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP). 5.3 The procedures outlined in this policy are not mandatory for benefit eligible employees in an original probationary period, and other (non-benefit eligible) employees. 5.4 Departments may establish other alternative disciplinary procedures that meet their unique needs provided that the departmental rules do not conflict with the goals of uniform, fair and consistent administration of discipline. Any variations from this policy must be reviewed and approved by the P&C Director in writing prior to their implementation. The Greensboro Fire and Police Departments have adopted alternative procedures pursuant to this policy. 5.5 If an employee resigns while facing discipline, the City reserves the right to withhold any payments and/or benefits not mandated by law. 5.6 If a dismissal is overturned on appeal, the employee will be reinstated. The employee may receive pay at the employee’s last rate for the time lost (some exceptions may apply). 5.7 The procedures outlined in this policy in no way guarantees the employee a right to continued employment or an expressed or implied contract of employment or a promise of continued employment. None of these procedures are intended, by reason of their publication, to confer any rights or privileges upon any employee. The information contained in this policy is not binding on the City of Greensboro and is subject to change at the sole discretion of the City of Greensboro. 5.8 Expectations for Employee Performance and Behavior There is a high standard for, and at times greater scrutiny of, public sector employees. As a City employee, you work for the residents in the community we serve. All City employees should follow the general list of expectations for performance and/or behaviors below. Departments may have additional expectations and/or directives that guide performance and/or behavior
