Applicants for all benefit-eligible positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing. B. Testing for THC, a chemical found in marijuana but also in other cannabis-based products, has the potential to create an artificial and data uninformed barrier to employment. It may exclude qualified applicants who lawfully use cannabis-based products or exclude applicants who pose no threat to their safety or the safety of others. As a result, the City will not report THC results for individuals applying to non-safety sensitive roles. All applicants for safety-sensitive positions including, sworn law enforcement, sworn fire personnel, emergency tele-communicators and commercial drivers must pass a pre-employment screening including THC. C. Employees moving from a non-safety sensitive position to the positions listed below fall into this category, and employees must take and pass a drug test before being promoted, transferred, or demoted into any of them: 1. All positions requiring a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) 2. Equipment Mechanics who repair or maintain equipment whose operations require an operator have a CDL 3. Emergency Communications Specialist, any level 4. Heavy Equipment Operator, any level 5. Employees involved in water treatment, wastewater treatment, operations and maintenance procedures 6. Plant Mechanic, any level 7. Solid Waste Collections Processes 8. All employees who work in City Medical Services. 9. All employees working as Lifeguards
