Puerto Rico is an island in the Caribbean Sea.

Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Puerto Rican people are Americans.

Puerto Rico was hit by two hurricanes. First came Hurricane Irma. Then came Hurricane Maria.

Hurricane Maria caused a lot of damage. Many houses and cars were damaged.

Towers fell. That made cell phones and the internet not work.

Electrical wires fell. Puerto Rico lost power. Things that get plugged in did not work anymore.

Carmen Cruz is the Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She is trying to get help for the people in Puerto Rico.

The people in Puerto Rico need food, water, and medicine. The U.S. and other organizations are sending those things.

Google is helping Puerto Rico. They are sending balloons. The balloons are like towers. They will make cell phones and the internet work.

Elon Musk owns a company called Tesla. He is sending batteries to Puerto Rico to get power back.

On October 10 th the people in Puerto Rico were still waiting. Hopefully they will have power, internet, and cell phone service soon.
