MIKE STADLER, who enters his third season with the USO footba ll program, is coming off one of the best years ever turned in by a Torero quarterback ... he was named to the PFL First Team on offense; also earned USO Offensive Player of the Year honors ... a Biology major with a 3.6 g.p.a., he also earned PFL recognition on the All -Academic Squad ... he tossed a school-best 30 touchdowns, breaki ng the old mark of 21 ( 1973) ... in fact, he needs just two more TD tosses in 1998 to set a new USO career mark -- the current record of 3 1 is held by Vince Moiso ( 1992-94) ... he blistered PFL oppo– nents in 1997 for 1,303 yards and 20 TDs over a 5-game span (averaging 260 yards and 4 TDs per league #18 contest, and connecting on 74.6 percent of his passes) ... he turned in 5 TD performances against Evansville, Valparaiso and Drake ... he

behind victory over Drake he threw four of his touchdowns in the final two periods, all completed to Dylan Ching ... his biggest nonconference outing came at Cal Lutheran where he finished I7- of-36 for 309 yards and 2 scores (at halftime he was 9-of-16 for 226 yards and 2 TDs) ... in the season finale against Wagner he completed l l-of-18 for 162 yards and 2 TDs ... in 1996 Stadler was the Toreros third-string QB and finished the year with just one completion on four attempts ... prior to USO he spent four years playing professional baseball as a catcher (two years in the San Diego Padres organization and two years with the Cleveland Indians) ... he was drafted by the Padres in the 34th round of the 1992 June draft ----------------~

DYLAN CHING, who enters just his third year with the USO football team, has already made his mark in the Torero record books ... last season as a sophomore he led Torero receivers with 915 yards and 12 touchdowns, finishing second on the team with 48 catches ... he was the team's top receiver in 5 contests, and surpassed I00 yards receiving in five games .. . twice he hauled in 7 receptions ( 134 yds vs. Evansville; 148 yards vs. Butler) ... the team' s top deep threat, he caught 5 TDs of 36 yards or longer, with a best of 70 yards against Azusa ... he was named to the AII-PFL First Team for his efforts ... his 12 TD receptions and4 TD catches in a game (vs. Drake) are new Torero receiving records; the 4 TDs in a game and 24 points in #20 a game also tied Torero marks ...
