irrationality Irrationality is inherent to spaces, which are hyperrational, rigidly organized and complying with the formal precepts — mathematical spaces, linear spaces. They transmit light from all sides in equal segments. They are metric and rhythmic. They are abstract and alien to their inhabitants, be- ing highly indifferent to them. Such spaces are not designed for making a life. They may be used as a coordinate system where one can occupy a certain spatial position, but it is impossible to over- come the rigidity of such spaces. They always have a strong component that reverses visual lapi- darity and hangs a question in the air. This component adds metaphysical depth and sacredness to such spaces. emptiness Emptiness possesses energy. The forces of emptiness require proper structuring, and then empti- ness will completely transform the space. It is possible to make it so ponderous that it will fall down; or vice versa, to let it soar high above, to admit air and light into it. Emptiness may be extruded or retracted, centripetal or centrifugal. The energy of emptiness makes the space dense, manifests its essence, twists, fills with movement. It is extremely difficult to achieve this effect, and it is usually inherent only in very strange objects, the functions of which are rather obliterated, but it is then that the magic happens. shell The shell — the external form — should not mechanically define the internal space. It is neces- sary to observe the principle of eversion, to create a paradoxical discrepancy, a deliberate decep- tion. Fill a radically simple shell with complex life. The more inert and incomprehensible the shell is, the more mysterious will be the life inside it.The interaction between the external and the inter- nal remains, but there is an illusion that the internal can be calculated. However, since the content is distorted, you get not what you expected. The internal, which is alive and paradoxical, faces the external, i.e. universal. It creates vibrations, mental explosion. The shell does not directly define the living space, but with a certain gap. It allows the function to vibrate, capturing the voids of an ab- stract form. architectural script The architectural scenario is based on a symbolic representation of function. The architecture is in- tuitive, and the function can be interpreted as a local image of a particular zone or a room. This is not work within a genre: it is a manipulation with the diverse properties of space using a variety of techniques known to architects. As a result, for example, the bedroom volume can be interpreted as a possibility to sleep in a shelter on a mountain, or in a burrow, or in an open field, but without apparent pictorialism. The image of an individual function becomes an element of the object’s “his- tory”. A set of images arranged in order, and the dramaturgy of sequences of impressions may be considered as tangible products to reveal the “architectural scenario”. alexey rosenberg
