In certain situations, even a simple dataset reflecting few price changes in past years could be meaningful. It is likely that such real data would be available in most cases. Alternatively, the product specific price elasticity of demand may be estimated from questionnaires addressed to the customers of the investigated firm, which would ask about hypothetical reactions to a price increase, similarly as the SSNIP tests are performed nowadays in practice.
