Design

Architect and designer Patricia Urquiola began working on the Canasta collection while in the Far East, and the handmade set features various woven structures that each take four hours to complete, with two craftsmen interlacing each piece individually. Inspired by a wicker basket Patricia spotted while traveling in Asia, the weave’s design is a reinterpretation of the pattern seen in a Viennese cane. It’s available in a variety of fabrics and finishes, so you can fully customize the sofa to match your poolside decor. The seat has an option of a swivel base that rotates 360 degrees, allowing you to follow the sun with ease. Or if you prefer to chill in the shade then a foldable canopy can be extended to reduce sunlight by up to 92 percent. From$4,870, available fromB&B Italia, bebitalia.com The wicker woman

Go with the flow After a year of conception, the Flux collection by Hong Kong-based design duo Ed Ng and Terence Ngan was unveiled in April at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. The pair partnered with Czech manufacturer of contemporary glassware, Lasvit, to create the serene collection. The Flux lamp (pictured) was inspired by etches left on the shore by receding tides and the way that light reflects off the ocean in shallow water. Each lamp is hand-blown in lead crystal and individually shaped around a hand-carved timber, ensuring every piece has its own unique appearance and texture. The transparent top section has interior and exterior layers of gold and platinum to trap and deflect light, and the result mimics the movement of water in motion. $2,500, lasvit.com

TAKE THREE/// SUMMERHOUSE ESSENTIALS

Summertime calls for alfresco dining, garden parties and lazy days by the pool. Fix up your summerhouse garden with these must-haves

CYCLONE LOUNGER The Cyclone rollercoaster is one of Coney Island’s oldest functioning rides, and the New York icon is the inspiration (and material) for Uhuru’s Cyclone lounger. It’s crafted from reclaimed wood from the demolished boardwalk — the weathered ipe wood was first installed in the 1940s. The lounger was added to the permanent collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in 2012. Hand-built to order from uhurudesign.com

TOLUCA FIRE TABLE Perfect for staying warm on chilly evenings as the sun sets, these sculptural fire tables are crafted from hand-packed concrete and make an architectural statement. Part of RHOutdoor’s latest collection, the fire tables are heat resistant to the touch and the multi-step hand-finishing process captures the texture and color of natural travertine limestone, meaning no two tables are alike. Available in linear (pictured) or cube. $7,795, available from rh.com

GAUCHOWOOD-FIREDGRILL Inspired by traditional Argentinian wood-fired grilling and paired with modern conveniences, the Gaucho is as technically sound as it is stylish. The 30in wheel smoothly raises and lowers the grill grates and rotisserie, allowing you to control heat by adjusting the proximity of food to the flame. Customize your grill by including your initials or family name. From$26,814, hand-built to order from kalamazoogourmet.com
