Junior doctor employment is changing!

New director of undergraduate medical education We would like to welcome Dr Lubna Bhatt (Clinical Oncology) as the new director of undergraduate medical education. Following a successful interview, Dr Bhatt took the reigns as the new director from September after Dr Harris stepped down from the after a very successful three years in post. The medical education team would like to thank Dr Harris for her outstanding contributions over the past three years and we look forward to working with Dr Bhatt in this new position.

Over the past few years, Heath Education England North has seen the merger of the old Cheshire and Mersey Deanery and the Greater Manchester Deanery. As a result, there will now be one lead employer responsible for all trainees and physician associates across the north west. On 1st October 2018 St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (StHK) became the single lead employer. The medical workforce team will be working closely with StHK to ensure a smooth transition from the previous employer and to learn the new streamlined systems. There will be regular communications via medical workforce and there will be forums with key stakeholders such as HR directors, medical staffing and directors of finance. Information will be circulated as it received and there will also be a north west section on their shared services portal.

Enhanced supportive care conference

The education events team were delighted to support Dr Richard Berman and Dr Saifee Mullamitha in organising the enhanced supportive care: cancer toxicity management conference in July. The event was held at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester with more than 120 people attending. This fantastic meeting was the first of its kind with the collaboration of supportive care, pain management and acute and long-term toxicities. Specialist speakers from all over the UK and keynote speaker Prof Richard Gralla from the USA contributed to a fast paced agenda and panel discussions. Themes covered included; precision medicine, conventional toxicities, radiotherapy, radiology and surgery and palliative care and psycho-oncology. Delegate feedback was very positive and we will be organising the event again in June 2019. For further information contact the education events team education.events@christie.nhs.uk
