Project Description The purchase of land for future parks is identified in the Bikeways, Trails, Parks and Recreation Master Plan and the General Plan. In 2015, the City acquired property for future development of a 23-acre softball and baseball field complex at the corner of Tennant and Condit. In 2017, the City completed the purchase of an additional 10 acres of property on Murphy Avenue adjacent to the Outdoor Sports Center and Dennis Kennedy Morgan Hill Aquatics Center. The additional 10 acres of space is currently being used for overflow parking for events at the two adjacent facilities. Since this site and the ball field site are located in the County, payment of property taxes for both sites are accounted for in this project. The future City parkland purchase and development priorities outlined in the Master Plan include the purchase, planning, and development of two new neighborhood parks and one new community park located on the east side of the City. Fiscal Year 2022/23 has funding allocated for the future land banking of a community park site. The other park acquisition and developments are not planned in the current six-year CIP. The City is working actively on potential public-private partnerships to develop the two land banked park properties. Project Justification Acquiring property for new parks helps ensure an adequate parks inventory in the future and is a required element of the Master Plan.
