Kern Medical Emergency Preparedness

remain at their workstations. Security personnel are trained to provide a precise response to those situations that involve an actual or potential threat to patients, staff, or visitors.  They will gather information regarding the incident from the person who had initial contact with the individual(s) causing the actual or potential threat.  They will evaluate the situation to determine the best response.  When appropriate, security will notify local law enforcement and detain the individual if employees, visitors or patients are at risk.  When necessary for safety reasons, security personnel will use restraining force.  All incidents involving workplace violence will be documented according to Kern Medical policy ADM-HR-100 and Kern County Workplace Violence policy as outlined in the KC employee handbook.  CODE GRAY ALL CLEAR:  When the incident has been resolved, the operator will announce “Code Gray, all clear” and all departments should return to normal operations. EDUCATION:  Kern Medical Staff  Will receive education and demonstrate competency related to the qualifications necessary to participate in a Code Gray at Kern Medical upon orientation, periodically as defined by the organization and upon policy change.  Patient/Family/Significant Other  Will receive instructions at time of occurrence as necessary for their safety. DOCUMENTATION:  An online Occurrence Report will be completed as outlined in policy ADM- RI-505.  Security personnel will document the incident and their involvement in a department Incident Report.  After Action Report (AAR) will be completed by the Safety Officer or his Designee.
