JANUARY 2017

A PUBLICATION ABOUT LIFE AT FRENCHMAN’S CREEK BY, FOR AND ABOUT OUR MEMBERS

FROM BETTE GOLDBERG

On Saturday, May 19th, 2018, my son got married here at the club. Weather wise, they would have been better off getting married in London where Prince Harry got married the same day.

They wanted to get married on the beach, so the plan was the Beach Club… they worked very hard with Cindy and she was great, but the sun did not come out and the rain continued to fall and fall!

That same day, Martina took over and everything was set up at the clubhouse… Panic set in!

However, all for naught as the wedding was fabulous and we could not have asked for anything better and all was done in exactly three hours!

Kudos to Cindy and Martina and the Frenchman’s Creek Staff. They are the best!!!

MARIANNE WINICK had a hole-in-one on Saturday, May 12, 2018. It was on hole #15 of the north course. The hole played at 105 yards and she used a 7 wood.

SHEILA BABICH is proud of her granddaughter, Lauren Greenberg who graduated from the Brooklyn Law School, but is more excited that her daughter, Debra, who graduated from Brooklyn Law School as well, was accorded the honor of presenting Lauren her diploma. She is the third generation graduate as Lauren’s grandfather also graduated from Brooklyn Law School.

Frenchman’s Creek Community mourns the loss of our following member

FRANK SCHACHTER who lived at 13305 Provence Drive and was a resident since 1990. Our heartfelt sympathies to his beloved wife, Rhoda and their family.

INTERNATIONAL NIGHT WAS NOTHING SHORT OF MAGICAL! Mark H. Hurd

This year’s theme for the International Night/Trainees Around the World Show held on Saturday, April 28, was a Masquerade Ball titled “A Night to Remember.” And truly, what an unforgettable evening it was! Masked in mystery and draped in stylish attire, members drank libations and noshed on hors d’oeurves before moving into the main dining room

for dinner. There they found a feast fit for royalty with delicious and decadent dishes prepared by our Chefs. Guests dined on items from all over the world including Asian, American, European, Mediterranean, and African foods, which were served buffet style. After satisfying their hunger, members settled in for an evening of diverse and extraordinary entertainment. There was something for everyone! The emcees of the show, Mashesha, Minentle, and Mike along with Sipho, the DJ opened the show. They introduced the entertainers who hailed from far away places from all around the world: Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, India, Mexico,

the Philippines, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Ukraine, and Vietnam. After all it was a “Trainees Around The World” program. Dressed in their native costumes, various entertainers performed their country’s traditional song or dance while others showed off their talents in more interpre- tative ways.

Desie and Gratsie performed a “Hip Hop” routine.

Steff showed us how creative mixing cocktails can be; Jee was silent during his mime act;

and, the Philippine contingent treated us to several acts: a traditional bamboo stick and coconut fan dance, a Philippine modern dance, a Filipino ballad (sung by Lee Mark); and, a Filipino solo (sung by Angelika).

Our own Peter and Raffy sang a love song and passed out roses to the audience.

Many other performers treated us to great performances, but the hit of the show was the presentation by The Grill Team led by Ednalyn So (who also directed the entire program). Their rendition of YMCA with facemasks of the administration followed by the Board of Directors was exceedingly clever! The audience adored them!

The 2018 Trainees Around the World Masquerade Ball musical was definitely “A Night to Remember.” This performance will undoubtedly go down as one of the best and most talented shows Frenchman’s Creek members have been treated to in many years.
