This five day course, held at Northern College, is aimed at Reps who want a practical, no-nonsense guide to getting the best for themselves, and their members, in negotiations with management.

• Factors likely to hinder or advance gender equality bargaining • Willingness to ‘give’ and to ‘take’ • Wage demands • Check-off

It will cover the following areas: • What is Collective Bargaining? • Bargaining at Local and National Levels

• Union recognition • Management rights • Negotiating strategies • Conflict resolution

• Industry wide agreements • Bargaining in good faith

Union Learning Reps

Days: 5

Date: 27 - 31 May 2019

Location: Northern College

If Union Learning Reps (ULRs) are not sufficiently trained in order to fulfil their role, then they are not eligible for time-off in order to fulfil their trade union duties. This five day course, held at Northern College, is designed to equip Union Learning Reps with all the prerequisite skills needed for their tasks. The course will cover: • The role and function of ULRs

• The principles of Lifelong Learning • Interviewing techniques

• Negotiating Learning and Training • The Identification of Learning Needs • Working with employers and other partners to improve members’ access to Learning • Supporting members in their own Learning
