This five day course held at Northern College is recommended for Workplace Representatives, who understand the basic elements of their role and their rights but who want to further develop their skills and confidence in representing members. The course will include the following: • Understanding a range of problems that affect members • Knowledge of how to collect and present information when representing members • The production of a plan for dealing with member’s specific problems

• The development of the skills and confidence required in order to represent members in meetings with management • Bargaining, negotiation and consultation in the workplace • A review of Statutory Employment Rights • Knowledge of Equality, discrimination and protected characteristics • Bargaining, negotiation and consultation in the workplace.

This two day course, held at Quorn, is intended for new Workplace Representatives who have completed the Health & Safety Stage 1 course; and for experienced Reps who would like to refresh their training. The course will include: • The background and origins of specific Health & safety legislation affecting the workplace • The main legal requirements of specific Health & Safety regulations • An understanding of how Health & Safety regulations can be used in order to improve Health and Safety standards at work

• Using Health & Safety issues as part of your own union’s toolkit for recruitment in the workplace • Developing the confidence to raise Health & Safety matters on behalf of union members • Understanding the key legal requirements relating to risk assessment • Understanding the risk assessment process • Using risk assessment strategies and union organisation in order to secure improvements in workplace safety
