Equalities ‘An injury to one, is an injury to all’. Trade Unions need to deliver on what they say

Unions reflect wider society; and just like modern British society, they are becoming increasingly diverse. The Unions have always led the way in struggles for economic, social, sexual, disability and political rights. Indeed, our values of Equality and Social Justice were forged during the European Enlightenment and in the experience of the French Revolution. Today, women and men from Black and ethnic minority backgrounds (BAME) form an increasingly large proportion of the workforce; disabled workers (particularly after the closure of the Remploy factories and the changes to benefits, forcing people back into the workplace) face greater challenges than they have known in generations; and LGBT+ people continue to face challenges and discrimination in the workplace. Trade Unions can play an important part in championing Equalities and in improving, and empowering all their members (regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race or disability) to achieve their full potential. The GFTU is proud to play a part in advancing the Equalities agenda in everything it does. Equalities strands can be found blended into all GFTU learning opportunities: but we also offer our own range of introductory and advanced courses within this programme, as detailed below.
